The Indian women’s junior hockey team defeated China 4-2 in a penalty shootout in the final of the Asia Cup in Muscat777pub, Oman, on Sunday, December 15 to defend their title. (More Hockey News)

After a 1-1 draw post the four quarters, the title went to a shootout which witnessed the defending champions showcase their mettle.  

The game started off on a decent note, but picked up pace as China pressed the attacking pedal early.

However, the Indian defence was as firm as it could be, and the goalkeeper Nidhi put on an absolute masterclass between the goalpost. 

India started to attack and earned a flurry of penalty corners but failed to convert them. 

Bad quality execution turned into a worse result as China broke the deadlock and took the lead. 

However, India’s fight lived on, and Deepika equalised, taking the game to a penalty shootout.

It was Nidhi again, who had a brilliant game, saved India, and eventually helping them win the title. 

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed his enthusiasm and stated: "This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey.
